अनुशीलन समिति

अनुशीलन समिति भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के समय बंगाल में बनी अंग्रेज-विरोधी, गुप्त, क्रान्तिकारी, सशस्त्र संस्था थी। इसका उद्देश्य वन्दे मातरम् के प्रणेता व प्रख्यात बांग्ला उपन्यासकार बंकिम चन्द्र चट्टोपाध्याय के बताये गये मार्ग का 'अनुशीलन' करना था। अनुशीलन का शाब्दिक अर्थ होता है पर्त-दर-पर्त खोलना और खोल कर विचार करना कि समस्या के मूल में क्या है? यह बीसवीं शताब्दी के आरम्भिक दिनों में समूचे बंगाल में कार्य कर रही थी। पहले-पहल कलकत्ता और उसके कुछ बाद में ढाका इसके दो ही प्रमुख गढ़ थे। इसे स्वास्थ्य क्लब के छद्मभेष में चलाया गया था। बाद में इसकी गतिविधियों का प्रचार प्रसार ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों सहित पूरे बंगाल में हो गया। इसके प्रभाव के कारण ही ब्रिटिश भारत की सरकार को बंग-भंग का निर्णय वापस लेना पडा था।
इसकी प्रमुख गतिविधियों में स्थान स्थान पर शाखाओं के माध्यम से नवयुवकों को एकत्र करना, उन्हें मानसिक व शारीरिक रूप से शक्तिशाली बनाना ताकि वे अंग्रेजों का डटकर मुकाबला कर सकें। उनकी गुप्त योजनाओं में बम बनाना, शस्त्र-प्रशिक्षण देना व दुष्ट अंग्रेज अधिकारियों वध करना आदि सम्मिलित थे। अनुशीलन समिति के सक्रिय सदस्य उन भारतीय अधिकारियों का वध करने में भी नहीं चूकते थे जिन्हें वे अंग्रेजों का पिट्ठू व हिन्दुस्तान का 'गद्दार' समझते थे। इसके प्रतीक-चिन्ह की भाषा से ही स्पष्ठ होता है कि वे इस देश को एक (अंग्रेजी में यूनाइटेड) रखना चाहते थे जैसे आजकल यू० के० (इंग्लैण्ड) है, यू० एस० ए० (अमेरिका) है। सन् १९४७ के बाद हिन्दुस्तान के विभाजन ने भारत के साथ-साथ उसके पडोसी देश पाकिस्तान के लिये भी समस्यायें पैदा कर रक्खी हैं जिससे दोनों ही देश मुक्त नहीं हो पा रहे।

भारतीय स्वतंत्राता संग्राम में मूल युगांतरकारी घटनायें

’’नादिरशाह ने देश को केवल एक बार लूटा परंतु ब्रिटिश हमें हर दिन लूटते हैं। हमारे खून को चूसते हुए प्रति वर्ष 4.5 मीलियन डालर की संपदा देश के बाहर खींच ली जाती है। ब्रिटिश को तत्काल ही भारत छोड़ देना चाहिए।’’ सिंध टाईम्स ने मई 20, 1884 में इंडियन नेशनल कांग्रेस के जन्म से 1 वर्ष और 1942 के ’’भारत छोड़ो’’ आंदोलन की शुरूआत से 58 वर्ष पहले लिखा था ।

केवल इंडियन नेशनल कांग्रेस ने एम.के.गांधी के नेतृत्व सम्हालने पर राष्ट्र्ीय भावनाओं को जगाया था इस विचार के विपरीत राष्ट्र्ीय संवेदनायें भारत में 1857 के लगभग रहीं और ब्रिटिश शासन के दौरान भारतीय राष्ट्र्ीयता विभिन्न शक्लों में लगातार प्रगट होती रही।

विदेशी वस्तुओं का बहिष्कार

सिकारपुर सिंध में, आर्थिक राष्ट्र्ीयता का स्वरूप दिखलाई दिया जब 1888 में स्थापित प्रीतम धर्मसभा ने अनेक सामाजिक सुधारों को प्रारंभ किया। उसने ’’स्वदेशी’’ शक्कर, साबुन, और कपड़ा मिलों की स्थापना की प्रेरणा दी थी। सभा के साहित्य को इतना क्रांतिकारी समझा गया कि 1909 में, उसके 3 सदस्योंः सेठ चेतूमल, वीरूमल बेगराज और गोविंद शर्मा को ब्रिटिश प्रशासन ने 5 वर्ष की कठोर कारावास की सजा सुनाई थी।

1905 में, ब्रिटिश द्वारा साम्प्रदायिक आधार पर बंग भंग ने देशव्यापी स्वदेशी और स्वतंत्राता आंदोलन को प्रेरित किया था। अगस्त 7, 1905 को विदेशी वस्तुओं के बहिष्कार की घोषणा कर दी गई। इस समय इंडियन नेशनल कांग्रेस ने इस कार्यक्रम को सशर्त समर्थन दिया। परंतु एक वर्ष बाद, उग्रवादी नेता महाराष्ट्र् से तिलक, बंगाल से बिपिनचंद्र पाल एवं अरविंदो घोष और पंजाब से लाजपत राय के प्रभाव से 1906 में कांग्रेस के कलकत्ता अधिवेशन ने पहली बार ’’स्वराज’’ अर्थात् स्वशासन संकल्पना की घोषणा की और बहिष्कार आंदोलन को समर्थन देने का आह्वान किया। यद्यपि ’’स्वराज’’ की मांग भारत के लिए संपूर्ण राजनैतिक और आर्थिक आजादी की ओर मात्रा एक कदम था और चूंकि भारत को ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य का एक अंग बना रहना था, यह वास्तविक स्वतंत्राता की ओर एक महत्वपूर्ण पग था। उसने कई स्थानीय राष्ट्र्वादी संगठनों को विदेशी वस्तुओं के बहिष्कार आंदोलन में भाग लेने की और ऐसी दुकानें कायम करने की प्रेरणा दी जहां केवल देश में निर्मित वस्तुओं को ही बेचा जाता था।

पूर्ण स्वतंत्राता के शुरूआती आवाहनः गदर पार्टी का अभ्युदय

ब्रिटिश शासन से पूर्ण स्वतंत्राता के आह्वान के लिए 1913 में, प्रथम भारतीय राजनैतिक संगठन, गदर पार्टी भारतीय आप्रवासियों के द्वारा कैलीफोर्निया में, गठित की गई थी। गदर आंदोलन अनेक कारणों से अनोखा था। इसके संस्थापक सदस्यों में सिख बहुसंख्यक थे परंतु गदर आंदोलन प्रादेशिक और धार्मिक अतिश्यता से मुक्त था। वह धर्मांधता और जातिभेदभाव को पूरी तरह से नकारता था। और, कांग्रेस के विपरीत, इसकी सदस्यता मूलरूप से कामगार वर्ग और गरीब किसानों से थी। गदर आंदोलन मंे सिख, मुस्लिम और दलित के साथ हिंदुओं का स्वागत बिना किसी भेदभाव के किया जाता था।

गदर पार्टी का साहित्य ब्रिटिश शासन पीड़ित आम लोगों की दुर्दशा का स्पष्ट वर्णन करता था। प्रथम विश्व युद्ध की शुरूआत का पूर्वानुमान करने में वे सर्वप्रथम थे। भारतीय जनता की औपनिवेशिक शासन से मुक्ति का वह सही अवसर था इसलिए उन्होंने पूर्ण स्वतंत्राता के आम आंदोलन का नारा दिया था। ’’जंग दा होका’’ युद्ध की घोषणा पोस्टर में प्रथम विश्व युद्ध से संलग्न ब्रिटिश युद्ध गतिविधियों में भारतीय सैनिकों के झौंके जाने की आशंका की चेतावनी भी उन्होंने ही दी थी।

दुर्भाग्य से, कांग्रेस इस अवसर का फायदा न उठा सकी। गांधी जैसे नेता तो ब्रिटिश युद्ध गतिविधियों के समर्थन में यहां तक बढ़ गए कि ब्रिटिश सेना में भारतवासियों के भरती होने का आह्वान किया। गांधी की बेईमान और खुशामदी नीति की न केवल गदर कार्यकत्र्तों ने कटु आलोचना की वरन् अन्य हलकों से भी विरोध शुरू हुआ।

उस समय जब गांधी ’’वार रिक्रूटमेंट मेला’’ को संबोधित कर रहे थे नबावशाह के डा. तुलजाराम खिलनानी वार लोन बाॅड के विरोध में खुली मुहिम चला रहे थे। सिंध बाम्बे प्रिसिडेंसी का हिस्सा था और सिंध कांग्रेस, बाम्बे प्राविंशियल कांग्रेस कमेटी का। जब गांधी ने आॅल इंडिया कांग्रेस कमेटी का चुनाव बंबई प्राविंशियल कांग्रेस कमेटी से लड़ा, सिंध के प्रतिनिधियों ने ब्रिटिश युद्ध गतिविधि के समर्थन को ध्यान में रखते हुए, उनके चुनाव का विरोध किया था।

तब भी कमोवेश, कांग्रेस उस समय अपेक्षाकृत समझौतावादी संगठन था और गदरवादियों से तीखी आलोचना पाती रहती थी। ब्रिटिश की दमनकारी नौकरशाही में भागीदारी के द्वारा अथवा स्वशासन या सुधारों के लिए ब्रिटिश से वकालत के द्वारा आजादी प्राप्त की जा सकती है - कांग्रेस के इस विचार को गदरवादियों ने अस्वीकार किया था। गदरवादियों को विश्वास था कि बिना किसी भेदभाव के, समाज के सभी वर्गों के साथ किसान एवं कामगार्रों का संघर्षशील जनआंदोलन ही सफल हो सकेगा। उन्होंने न केवल ब्रिटिश शोषण से आजादी की कल्पना की वरन् भूख, बेघरबारी और बीमारी से आजाद भारत की कल्पना की थी। उनकी दृष्टि में नए भारत में धार्मिक अंधविश्वासों और समाज मान्य असमानताओं के लिए कोई स्थान नहीं रहेगा।

कैलीफोर्निया में गदर आंदोलन शुरू हुआ, पूरी दुनियां में शाखायें स्थापित कीं गईं और 1916 में, उसके साप्ताहिक इस्तहार की 10 लाख प्रतियां प्रकाशित होकर बांटीं जातीं रहीं। जैसे जैसे शक्ति बड़ी उनका आंदोलन आगे बड़ा और पूरे भारत मेें गदर पार्टी की इकाईयां स्थापित करने की योजना को बल मिला। हजारों स्वयंसेवकों ने घर लौटने का यत्न किया और जहां भी संभव हो सका, गदर पार्टी की इकाईयां स्थापित कीं। इस बेहद विप्लववादी आंदोलन के असर को भांपते हुए ब्रिटिश ने कठोर कदम उठाये और आंदोलनकारियों को जा घेरा। सैकड़ों को लाहौर कांस्प्रेसी के 5 केसों में आरोपित किया गया। एक अनुमान के अनुसार 145 गदरवादियों को फांसी पर चढ़ा दिया और 308 को 14 वर्ष से अधिक के लिए कैद की सजा सुनाई। अनेकों को अंदमान के बदनाम काला पानी की सजा दी गई।

ब्रिटिश आर्मी के खासकर भारतीय सैनिकों पर गदरवादियों को सफलता प्राप्त हुई और उनको राजद्रोह करने के लिए प्रेरित किया। ब्रिटिश ने हांगकांग रेजीमेंट के सैनिकोें को गिरफ्तार किया, गदर बुलेटिन वितरण के लिए कोर्ट मार्शल किया, भारत वापिस भेजा और जेल भेज दिया गया। पेनाॅग की दो रेजिमेंटों ने सैन्यद्रोह किया परंतु सैन्यद्रोह को बर्बरतापूर्वक कुचल दिया गया। जनवरी 1915 में 130 वीं बलूची रेजिमेंट ने विद्रोह किया। इस रेजिमेंट के 200 सैनिकों का कोर्ट मार्शल किया गया, 4 सैनिकों को फांसी दी गई, 69 को आजीवन कारावास और 126 को विभिन्न मियादों के लिए सश्रम जेल भेजा गया। पंडित सोहनलाल पाठक गदर पार्टी के नेताओं में से एक को फरवरी 16, 1906 को, ब्रिटिश शासन के विरुद्ध विद्रोह भड़काने के लिए मंडालय जेल में फांसी दी गई। इराक और ईरान में भारतीय सैनिकों के बीच गदर पार्टी क्रियाशील थी। उनके काम के परिणाम स्वरूप बसरा में स्थित 15 वीं लेंसरस् ने विद्रोह कर दिया और 64 सैनिकों का कोर्ट मार्शल हुआ। इसी तरह 24 वीं पंजाबी और 22 वीं पहाड़ी रेजीमेंटों ने भी विद्रोह किया था।

परंतु गदरवादियों के विरुद्ध भंयकर दमन शरू करने के बाद भी 1919 में, जनता के क्रांतिकारी असंतोष की लहर को रोकने में ब्रिटिश असमर्थ थे। 1918 के अंतिम और 1919 के शुरू के महिनों ने अभूतपूर्व विशाल हड़ताली आंदोलनों को देखा। बंबई मिल की हड़ताल 1,25,000 कामगारों तक फैल गई थी। 1919 का रोलेट एक्ट जो सैन्य कानून के उपनियमों को विस्तार देता था, के बाबजूद आम प्रदर्शनों की लहर, हड़तालें और नागरिक असंतोष से ब्रिटिश अधिकारियों का सामना हुआ। कामगारों के साहसिक प्रतिरोध से ब्रिटिश सकते में आ गए और उस वर्ष की सरकारी गवर्नमेंट रिपोर्ट ने आश्चर्य से यह चेतावनी पाई कि कैसे हिंदू और मुस्लिम ने एक साथ होकर उनकी शक्ति को चुनौति दी। आश्चर्य नहीं, ब्रिटिश ने बेमिसाल दमनकारी कदम उठाये थे।

जनरल डायर के जलियांनबाग के हत्याकांड के बाद हड़तालों की बाढ़ आ गई। उसने निहत्थे 10,000 बैसाखी मनाने वाले लागों पर 1600 राॅउंड गोलाबारूद से निर्दयी हमला किया। गांधी ने तब भी, दिसम्बर 1919 में ब्रिटिशों को सहयोग देने की वकालत करना जारी रखा जबकि आम भारतवासी का प्रतिरोध जारी था। 1920 के शुरू के दो महिनों ने बड़े पैमाने के प्रतिरोधों को देखा। इन प्रतिरोधों में 15 लाख कामगारों और 200 से अधिक हड़तालों की भागीदारी थी। इस उमड़ते क्रांतिकारी ज्वार के प्रत्युत्तर मंे कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व को अपनी उदारवादिता से ही मुकाबला करना पड़ा। उन्हें अपने कार्यक्रम में कुछ ज्यादा ही संघर्षकारी चेहरा प्रगट करना पड़ा। ’’अहिंसक असहयोग’’ आंदोलन इस प्रकार से कांग्रेस के नेताओं यथा लाजपत राय, मोतीलाल नेहरू, और गांधी की देखरेख में शुरू किया गया।

अन्य विप्लवकारी शक्तियां

कांग्रेस की टांग खिंचाई के बाबजूद दूसरी अन्य विप्लववादी शक्तियों का सम्मिलन हो रहा था। 1920 में कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी आॅफ इंडिया का गठन हो चुका था। वह संपूर्ण स्वतंत्राता की मांग कर रही थी। उसने यह भी जोर दिया कि ’’स्वराज’’ के नारे को मूलभूत अर्थ दिया जाना चाहिए और सामाजिक एवं आर्थिक परिवर्तन के कार्यक्रम की व्याख्या की जानी चाहिए। इन परिवर्तनों में जमीनदारी प्रथा की समाप्ति, सामंतकालीन दमन और जातीय उत्पीड़न से मुक्ति जैसे अतिआवश्यक प्रश्नों को जोड़ा जाना चाहिए।

आजादी की लड़ाई में भाग लेते हुए कम्युनिस्टों ने कामगारों कोे ट्र्ेड युनियनों में, किसानों को ’’किसान सभाओं’’ ’में और विद्यार्थियों को विद्यार्थी युनियनों में संगठित करने में अपनी क्षमताओं को लगाया। इन्हीं प्रयत्नों के परिणामस्वरूप राष्ट्र्ीय संगठनों जैसे ’’आॅल इंडिया टे्र्ड युनियन कांग्रेस,’’ ’’आॅल इंडिया किसान सभा’’ और ’’आॅल इंडिया स्टुडेंट फेडेरेशन’’ का गठन हुआ और उन्हें शक्तिशाली बनाया गया। कम्युनिस्टों ने प्रगतिशील, सांस्कृतिक एवं साहित्यिक संगठनों यथा ’’प्रोग्रेसिव राईटर्स एसोशियेशन’’ और ’’इंडियन पीपुल्स थेयटर एसोशियेशन’’ की शुरूआत की।

ब्रिटिश ने कम्युनिज्म को भारत से बाहर कर देने का निश्चय कर लिया था। ठीक उसी प्रकार जैसे उनने गदरवादियों का दमन किया था। ब्रिटिश ने अनुभवहीन कम्युनिस्ट संगठनों का क्रूर दमन करना शुरू किया। कम्युनिस्ट साहित्य को प्रतिबंधित किया जिससे क्रांतिकारी विचारधारा के विस्तार को रोका जा सके। ब्रिटिश शासन ने कम्युनिस्ट आंदोलन के युवा नेतृत्व के विरुद्ध षडयंत्रातापूर्वक केस दायर करना शुरू किया यथा पेशावर 1922 में, कानपुर 1924 में और मेरठ 1929 में। 1920 के दशक में स्थापना के बाद ही कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी को गैरकानूनी घोषित किया और उसे दो दशकों से अधिक गैरकानूनी परिस्थितियों में ही काम करना पड़ा था।

कांग्रेस की पुराणपंथता

अनेक संदर्भों में, गदर पार्टी और भारतीय कम्युनिस्टों का भारतीय परिस्थितियों का विश्लेषण एक समान था और बाबजूद इसके कि वे सरकारी दमन को भुगत रहे थे, उनके सिद्धांत लोगों को लुभाते रहे।

परंतु गदरवादी कांग्रेस के ज्यादा आलोचक थे और कम्युनिस्टों की अपेक्षा कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व को अधिक संशय से देखते थे। कम्युनिस्ट सोचते थे कि जन आंदोलनों का दबाव कांग्रेस को ब्रिटिश के विरुद्ध अधिक दृढ़ता से कार्य करने पर मजबूर करेगा। परंतु उनने संभवतया कांग्रेस को पीछे खींचे रखने वाले पुराणपंथता का कम मूल्यांकन किया था। 1921 में, रिपब्लिकन मुस्लिम नेता हसरत मोहानी विदेशी नियंत्राण से पूर्ण मुक्त ’’स्वराज’’ को संपूर्ण स्वतंत्राता की तरह व्याख्या करते हुए प्रस्ताव रखना चाहते थे। ब्रिटिश को अधिक राहत के लिए गांधी ने प्रस्ताव के विरोध का नेतृत्व किया और उसे रद्द कराया। 1921 में, ब्रिटिश द्वारा लगाये गए उंचे करों के खिलाफ उबलता हुआ गुस्सा था। अनेक जिलों के प्रतिनिधि गांधी के पास ’’नो टेक्स’’ अभियान के नेतृत्व के लिए पहुंचे। गुंटूर में राष्ट्र्ीय नेतृत्व की अनुमति के बिना नो टेक्स अभियान शुरू हो गया परंतु गांधी ने सभी टेक्स समय पर देने का नारा दिया। जो भी हो, केवल बारदोली के जिले में नो टेक्स आंदोलन के नेतृत्व के लिए वे सहमत हो गए थे परंतु जब उनने चैरीचैरा के गांव के किसान विद्रोह की खबर सुनी तो उसेे भी वापिस ले लिया।

गांधी के बारदोली निर्णय ने कांग्रेस के भीतर विवाद पैदा कर दिया। सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने लिखाः ’’’जब जनता का गुस्सा उबाल खा रहा था पीछे हटने की घोषणा राष्ट्र्ीय आपदा से कम न थी। महात्मा के प्रमुख लेफ्टीनेंट देशबंधुदास, मोतीलाल नेहरू और लाला लाजपत राय, जो जेल में थे, ने आम गुस्सा सहा। मैं देशबंधु के साथ था और मैंने देखा कि वे गुस्से और दुख में थे।’’ दी इंडियन स्ट्र्गल से उद्धृत, पृष्ठ 90।

मोतीलाल नेहरू, लाजपत राय और दूसरों ने गांधी को उनके निर्णय के विरोध में लम्बे और गुस्से भरे खत भेजे। गांधी ने उत्तर दिया था कि जेल में आदमी ’’नागरिक रूप से मृत’’ थे और उन्हें नीति के संबंध में कहने का अधिकार नहीं। इस गंभीर जन विरोधी निर्णय के साथ कांग्रेस की छवि बड़ी खराब हुई। गांधी ने स्वीकारा कि कांग्रेस की एक करोड़ की सदस्यता की घोषणा के स्थान पर उसके संपर्क में बमुश्किल दो लाख लोग ही गिने जा सके थे।

इस प्रकार से यह आवश्यक हो गया था कि नौजवान क्रांतिकारी दूसरी और विप्लववादी ताकतों की ओर मुड़ते। एम.एन.राय जैसे लोग ब्रिटिश विरोध के लिए सशस्त्रा संघर्ष के गठन की बात से आकर्षित हुए और उन्होंने रासबिहारी बोस से हाथ मिलाया कि विदेश में इस काम के लिए समर्थन पाया जा सके। दूसरों के लिए गदर पार्टी के संदेशों ने मानों तार झंकृत कर दिये। गदरवादियों का प्रभाव खासकर पंजाब में पैदा हुआ। युवा और चहेते शहीद भगतसिंह गदर समर्थकों के परिवार में पैदा हुए थे और उनके संदेश से बहुत प्रभावित थे। 1925 में, शहीद भगतसिंह द्वारा नौजवान भारत सभा शुरू की गई थी। उसने ’’इंकलाब जिंदाबाद’’ का प्रचलित नारा दिया था। पंजाब में 1925 में, गदर समर्थकों ने कृति किसान पार्टी की स्थापना की। कृति पार्टी ने नौजवानों के बीच काम किया और नौजवान भारत सभा से नजदीकी संबंध बनाये, भगतसिंह के ’’कृति’’ उर्दू संस्करण में काम करते हुए। गदरवादियों के समान कृति पार्टी ने भी समाज के हर श्रेणी से अपने सदस्य बनाये। उसने धार्मिक अवरोधों को तोड़ा और सिख, हिंदू और मुस्लिम सभी समुदायों से नेता चुने।

1920 के उत्तरार्ध में, कांग्रेस द्वारा किसी भी महत्वपूर्ण जन आंदोलन शुरू न कर सकने पर भी, ब्रिटिश शासन का विरोध वर्कर्स् एण्ड पीजेंट्स पार्टी और लड़ाकू युनियनों, गिरनी कामगार युनियन या बंबई की सूती कारखाने की रेड फ्लेग युनियन की ओर से बड़े तौर पर हुआ। 1928 के अधिवेशन में, संपूर्ण स्वतंत्राता की मांग से हटाते हुए कांग्रेस फिर अपने पुरांणपंथता को ओड़े रही। सुभाषचंद्र बोस और जवाहरलाल नेहरू की क्रांतिकारी मांगों पर गांधी छाये रहे। तब भी, 1929 का साल किसानों के विप्लवों और हड़तालों का महत्वपूर्ण साल रहा। यह वही वर्ष था जब भूमिगत क्रांतिकारियों के छोटे छोटे गुटों ने पुलिस स्टेशन, ब्रिटिश सेना के केंपों और ब्रिटिश दमन के स्थानों पर आक्रमण किए। अधिकांश क्रांतिकारी पकड़े गए। उन्हें या तो फांसी दी गई या फिर काले पानी की कठोर सजा।

सशस्त्र क्रांतिकारियों का प्रादुर्भाव

शुरू में सभी सशस्त्रा क्रांतिकारियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक अहिंसक असहयोग आंदोलन में हिस्सा लिया। परंतु जब गांधी ने अचानक असहयोग आंदोलन निलंबित कर दिया युवा क्रांतिकारियों ने दूसरे नेताओं की ओर रूख किया। 1904 में व्ही.डी.सावरकर ने ’’अभिनव भारत’’ का गठन क्रांतिकारियों की गुप्त संस्था के रूप में किया। ’’अनुशीलन समिति’’ और ’’युगांतर’’ ऐसी ही दो संस्थायंे थीं। उनने ब्रिटिश शासन का सशस्त्रा विरोध करने का विचार प्रचारित किया और मदाम कामा और अजीतसिंह के साथ अंतरराष्ट्र्ीय केंद्र स्थापित किये। यूरोप में संघर्ष का प्रतिनिधित्व श्यामजी कृष्णा वर्मा और कुछ दूसरों के द्वारा लंदन में एक शाखा स्थापित करते हुए हुआ।

कांग्रेस की अकर्मन्यता से उत्तर भारत में क्रांतिकारी निराश हुए और उनका मोह भंग हुआ। वे पहले थे जिनने बुजुर्ग नेताओं जैसे रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल, जोगेश चटर्जिया और सचिन्द्रनाथ सांयाल को पहिचाना। उनकी पुस्तक ’’बंदी जीवन’’ क्रांतिकारी आंदोलन में पाठ्य पुस्तक मानी जाती रही। वे अक्टूवर, 1924 को कानपुर में मिले और औपनिवेशिक शासन को सशस्त्रा क्रांति द्वारा उखाड़ने के लिए हिंदुस्तान रिपब्लिकन एसोशियेशन /सेना/ का गठन किया।

सशस्त्रा संघर्ष के लिए साहसी और जोखिमी भिड़ंतों की जरूरत थी। स्वयंसेवकों की भरती, प्रशिक्षण और हथियारों की प्राप्ति के लिए धन की जरूरत बनी रहती थी। इसलिए ही, ब्रिटिश राजकोष की डकैतियां की जातीं थीं। 9 अगस्त, 1925 को दस व्यक्तियों ने लखनउ के पास काकोरी गांव पर 8 डाउन ट्र्ेन को रोका जिससे रेलवे की धन राशि को प्राप्त किया जा सके। ब्रिटिश कार्यवाही कठोर और तत्काल हुई। असफाक उल्लाखान, रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल, रोशनसिंह और राजेंद्र लाहरी को फांसी पर लटका दिया गया, चार अन्य लोगों को अंडमान आजीवन कारावास के लिए भेजा और सात को लम्बे समय के लिए जेल की सजा सुनाई। उत्तर भारत के क्रांतिकारियों के लिए काकोरी केस बड़ा बुरा सिद्ध हुआ परंतु वह कोई प्राणनाशक आघात नहीं था। युवा विजयकुमार सिन्हा, शिव वर्मा और जयदेव कपूर उत्तर प्रदेश में और भगतसिंह, भगवती चरण वोहरा और सुखदेव पंजाब में ने हिंदुस्तान रिपब्लिकन एसोसियेशन /सेना/ का पुनर्गठन चंद्रशेखर आजाद के नेतृत्व में किया। इसी समय वे समाजवाद के सिद्धांतों से आकर्षित हुए। दिल्ली की 1 सितम्बर, 1928 की बैठक में, नये सामूहिक नेतृत्व ने समाजवाद को अपना लक्ष्य स्वीकार किया और अपने संगठन का नाम हिंदुस्तान सोशियलिस्ट रिपब्लिकन एसोशियेशन /सेना/ में बदल दिया।

अप्रेल 8, 1929 को हिंदुस्तान सोशियलिस्ट रिपब्लिकन एसोशियेशन /हि.स.प्र.स./ ने दो दमनकारी पब्लिक सेफ्टी बिल और ट्र्ेड डिस्प्यूट बिल को पारित करने के विरोध में सेंट्र्ल लेजिस्लेटिव एसेम्बली में बम फंेकने की योजना पर काम शुरू किया। परंतु, बम फेंकना किसी के जीवन को क्षति पहंुचाने के उद्देश से नहीं था। इस साहसपूर्ण कदम द्वारा भारतीय जनगण को जगाना और उत्साहित करना था। उसका उद्देश ’’बहरे को सुनाना’’ था, गिरफ्तार होकर और नए एवं स्वतंत्रा भारत के अपने विचारों और स्वप्नों के प्रचार के लिए ट्र्ायल कोर्ट का उपयोग करना था।

भगतसिंह और बटुकेश्वर दत्त पर एसेम्बली बम केस चलाया गया। बाद में सुखदेव, राजगुरू और दूसरे दसियों क्रांतिकारियों पर विख्यात षड़यंत्राकारी केस चलाये गये। कोर्ट में, उनकी दृढ़ता और निर्भयता धरोहरें बनीं। हर रोज ’’इंकलाब जिंदाबाद’’, ’’डाउन, डाउन विद इम्पीरियलिज्म’’ नारों के साथ कोर्ट में वे प्रवेश करते और ’’सरफरोशी की तमन्ना हैै’’ तथा ’’मेरे रंग दे बसंती चोला’’ जैसे गानों को गाते।

मार्च 1931 में, राजगुरू, सुखदेव और भगतसिंह को ब्रिटिश ने आम जनता के तीव्र विरोध के बाबजूद फांसी पर लटका दिया। भगतसिंह देश का चहेता नायक बना और उसकी फांसी पूरे देश में वेदना और दुख का उद्गार बनी। आंदोलन को बढ़ाने के लिए आम जनता के गुस्से को क्रांग्रेस उपयोग में ला सकती थी परंतु उसका भगतसिंह के मुकदमें पर ढीला रवैया था। ऐसा लगता है, गांधी ने भगतसिंह की आसन्न मृत्यु दण्ड की बात पर ब्रिटिश से अपनी व्यक्तिगत वार्ताओं में जोर नहीं दिया। भगतसिंह के समर्थक कटु हो गए थे। गांधी उनकी ओर से लड़ने में असफल हुए।

बंगाल में भी, सशस्त्रा क्रांतिकारी समूह ने पुनर्गठन और गुप्त कार्यवाहियों को बढ़ाना शुरू किया यद्यपि कुछ लोग कांग्रेस से संबंध बनाये रहे। उनकी योजनाओं में से कलकत्ता के अति घृणित पुलिस कमिश्नर, चाल्र्स टेगार्ट की हत्या एक थी। यह आक्रमण असफल रहा परंतु गोपीनाथ शाहा को पकड़ा और जनता के प्रतिरोध के बाबजूद उसे फांसी दे दी गई। इस असफलता के बाद भी सशस्त्रा विद्रोह के कदमों को त्यागा नहीं गया। नए ’’विद्रोह समूहों’’ में से सबसे अधिक क्रियाशील और प्रसिद्ध था, सूर्या सेन के नेतृत्व वाला चितगांग समूह।

सूर्या सेन ने असहयोग आंदोलन में सक्रिय भागीदारी अदा की थी। वे चिटगांग के नेशनल स्कूल में शिक्षक बन गए थे और वहां कांग्रेस से जुड़ गए थे। स्थानीय कांग्रेस कमेटी के सदस्यों के साथ नए युवा लोगों और अन्य हमवतनों से मिलकर सूर्या सेन ने विद्रोह की योजना बनाई। यह एक छोटी ही योजना थी यह बतलाने के लिए कि ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य की सशस्त्रा शक्ति को चुनौती दी जा सकती थी। उनकी योजना चिटगांग के दो मुख्य शस्त्रागारों को अधिकार में लेना और उनके शस्त्रों को छीनकर चार बड़े क्रांतिकारी समूह से एक बड़ा सशस्त्रा डिटेचमेंट का गठन करना था। अप्रेल 1930 में भयंकर लड़ाई में 80 ब्रिटिश सैनिक और 12 क्रांतिकारी मारे गए परंतु चिटगांग को क्रांतिकारों द्वारा छीना नहीं जा सका। चिटगांग के ग्रामीण इलाकों में सशस्त्रा क्रांतिकारी बिखर गए। अधिकांश गांव के मुस्लिमों ने छिपने, भोजन और 3 वर्षों तक जीवित रह सकने के लिए आश्रय दिया। चिटगांग शस्त्रागार धावे ने बंगाल की जनता पर गहरा प्रभाव डाला और अनेक सशस्त्रा प्रतिरोधों को प्रेरणा दी। परंतु सूर्या सेन अकस्मात् पकड़ा गया और 1934 में फांसी पर लटका दिया गया। उसके अनेक सह लड़ाकू भी पकड़े गए और उनको लम्बे समय के लिए जेल की सजा दी गई।

जैसा कि दिखलाई पड़ा कि कांग्रेस के प्रभाव से राष्ट्र्ीय आंदोलन पूरी तौर से फिसला जा रहा था, गांधी अहिंसात्मक संघर्ष के तरीके पर वापिस आये और 1930-31 का नमक सत्याग्रह शुरू कर दिया। आयातित वस्तुओं के बहिष्कार के कार्यक्रम भी शुरू किये गए। एक बार फिर से जनता स्फूर्तिवान हुई, ब्रिटिश विरोधी कार्यवाही की एक श्रृखंला बनी जिसमें से सबसे महत्वपूर्ण चिटगांग के शस्त्रागार का धावा और पेशावर के गढ़वाली सैनिकों का सैन्यद्रोह था। गढ़वाली सैनिकों ने आम जुलूस में अपने भाईयों पर गोली चलाने के ब्रिटिश आदेशों की अवज्ञा की थी। उन्हें गांधी से थोड़ी सी ही दया प्राप्त हुई थी।

ट्रेड युनियन प्रतिरोध

साथ ही साथ, ब्रिटिश सत्ता का सामना एक बार फिर हड़तालों की लहर से हुआ। यद्यपि कम्युनिस्ट सरकारी तौर पर गैरकानूनी थे, कम्युनिस्ट और सोशियलिस्ट समर्थक ट्र्ेड युनियन आंदोलनों में गतिशील बने रहे। बंबई के औद्योगिक कामगारों ने सबसे अधिक वीरतापूर्ण प्रतिरोध, लाठी चार्ज और अंधाधुंध गोलियों से भयभीत हुए बिना किया। इस प्रकार के बढ़ते हुए विरोध के उत्तर में ब्रिटिश ने बदला लेने के लिए भारी सशस्त्रा सेना का सहारा लिया और राॅयल एअर फोर्स के बमवर्षक वायुयानों को प्रतिरोधी और हड़ताली कामगारों पर बमबारी करने के लिए बुलाया।

व्यापारियों और बंबई चेम्बर आॅफ कामर्स ने औपनिवेशिक आधार पर भारतीयों के लिए स्वशासन की मांग का समर्थन किया। कामगारों का प्रतिरोध 30 के दशक भर चलता रहा परंतु मोटे तौर पर राष्ट्र्ीय आंदोलन ने नकाफी प्रगति की। कांग्रेस और उसके समर्थकों की उदारवादिता से राष्ठ्र्ीय आंदोलन पंगू बना और ब्रिटिश औपनिवेशिक स्वामियों के क्रूरदमन के द्वारा पीछे ठेल दिया गया।

भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन का निर्माण

सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने कांग्रेस के पुनरूत्थान के लिए कोशिश की और उसे उग्रवादी एवं समाजवादी दिशा में मोड़ने का प्रयास किया। उनने गांधी के प्रत्याशी पट्टाभिसीतारमैया को 1939 में कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष पद के चुनाच में हरा दिया। परंतु गांधी द्वारा उनके विरुद्ध प्रचार में वे ठीक से तैयार नहीं थे। कुछ महिनों बाद, उनने पद से स्तीफा दे दिया और वैकल्पिक तथा उग्र मंच तैयार किया जो स्वतंत्राता के बाद, भारत में, फार्वर्ड ब्लाक बना।

द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध की शुरूआत ने ब्रिटिश शासन के विरूद्ध संघर्ष के लिए नई एवं दृढ़ परिस्थितियां पैदा कर दीं। 1939 और 1940 में हड़तालें एवं किसान विद्रोह तेज हो गए थे। 1941 में मलाया में इंडियन नेशनल आर्मी को जनरल मोहनसिंह ने जापानी सहायता से आरंभ किया था। वे पंजाब के सियालकोट के थे और जलियांनवाला बाग की हत्याओं और गदर पार्टी के सदस्यों की फांसी से बेहद प्रभावित हुए थे। 1943 में सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने, जो बंगाल के सशस्त्रा क्रांतिकरियों के हमेशा समीप रहे थे, इंडियन नेशनल आर्मी को अपने अधिकार में लिया और उसका नाम बदलकर ’’आजाद हिंद फौज’’ रखा। उनके ’’पूरी लामबंदी’’ के नारे को दक्षिण पूर्वी एशिया में रहने वाले 20,00,000 से अधिक लोगों का समर्थन मिला। उनकी फौज में पंजाबी, मुस्लिम, सिख और पठान पेशेवर सैनिक तामिल और मलयाली रबर बागान कामगारों के साथ मिलकर लड़े थे। आजाद हिंद फौज में बोस ने हिंदू मुस्लिम एकता और मित्राता कैसे प्राप्त हो, प्रमाणित कर दिखला दिया और महिलाओं को सार्वजनिक कामों में समुचित अधिकार के योग्य बनाया।

1942 तक कांग्रेस दृढ़तापूर्वक काम करने के लिए मजबूर हुई और अगस्त में ’’भारत छोड़ो’’ का नारा दिया। 1942 का भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन देश के चारों ओर ज्वारभाटे जैसी शक्तिशाली लहरों की तरह फैल गया। वह अपने जद में देशभक्ति एवं देश पर मर मिटने के ज़जबे को उभारते हुए, हर तकबे के लोगों को ले आया। हिंदू महासभा जैसे अन्य संगठनों के स्वयंसेवक जिनमें भी यह सब था पर वे आम आंदोलन से दूर थे, वे लोग भी इसमें आये। उद्योगपति उत्साहित हुए और ब्रिटिश के विरुद्ध हड़ताली कार्यों को प्रोत्साहित किया।

महिलाओं की भूमिका

भारत के स्वतंत्राता संग्राम का एक महत्वपूर्ण पहलू उसमें महिलाओं की बढ़ती हुई भागीदारी था। आर्थिक बहिष्कार आंदोलन में महिलाओं ने विशेष भूमिका निभाई और अकसर अपने पति या रिस्तेदारों से बढ़कर असहयोग आंदोलन में भाग लेतीं रहीं। कांग्रेस के जुलूसों में प्रायः बच्चों को साथ रखकर महिलाओं ने बड़े पैमाने पर भाग लिया। बंगाल के सशस्त्रा संघर्ष में उनकी भागीदारी विशेष ध्यान देने योग्य थी। सूर्या सेन के दल को उनने आश्रय दिया, संदेश वाहक के काम किये, हथियारों की रखवाली की और हाथ में बंदूक लेकर लड़ाई की। प्रीतिलता वाड्डेगर एक धावे की अगुआई करते हुए मारीं गईं थीं। कल्पना दत्त को गिरफ्तार किया गया। सूर्या सेन के साथ उन पर मुकद्मा चला और आजीवन जेल की सजा दी गई। दिसम्बर 1931 में कोमिल्ला की दो स्कूली लड़कियांे, शांति घोष और सुनीति चैधरी ने डिस्ट्र्क्टि मजिस्ट्र्ेट को गोली मारी थी। फरवरी 1932 में, बीना दास ने कांवोकेशन में डिग्री लेते समय गवर्नर पर असफल गोली चलायी थी। 1942 में जब कांग्रेस के सब नेता जेल में थे अरूणा आसफअली और सुचेता कृपलानी अच्युत पटवर्धन और राम मनोहर लोहिया एवं अन्य के साथ भूमिगत आंदोलन चलाने के लिए आगे आईं। उषा मेहता ने कांग्रेस के रेडियो को चलाने का काम किया था। कांग्रेस, समाजवादी और फारवर्ड ब्लाक के सदस्य और अन्य सशस्त्रा प्रतिरोध दल इस समय भूमिगत गुटों के माध्यम से बंबई, पूना, सतारा, बड़ौदा, गुजरात, कर्नाटक, केरल, आंध्र प्रदेश, उत्तर प्रदेश और दिल्ली के हिस्सों में क्रियाशील थे।

दलित, आदिवासी और क्रांतिकारी किसान

भारतीय स्वतंत्राता संग्राम के अंतिम दौर ने किसान आंदोलनों को संघर्षशीलता की नई उंचाईयों तक उठते हुए देखा। 1930 के दशक में, किसान सभा क्रियाशील थी। भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन के नारे के बाद पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश, बिहार, बंगाल में मिदनापुर, महाराष्ट्र् में सतारा, और आंध्र, गुजरात एवं केरल में भी हर वर्ग के किसानों ने स्वतंत्राता संग्राम में भाग लिया था। यहां तक कि कुछ जमीनदार भी इस आंदोलन में शामिल हुए थे। दरभंगा के राजा किसान आंदोलन के बड़े समर्थकों में से एक थे। अपने संघर्ष में आदिवासी एवं खेतहर मजदूर खासकर वीरोचित थे। जमीनदारी प्रथा की अमानवीयता से कुचले हुए उन्हें दो संघर्ष करने पड़ेः एक, ब्रिटिश शासन से और दूसरे, जमीनदारों से जो ब्रिटिश शासन के सहयोगी थे। इन लड़ाईयों में से सबसे अधिक महत्वपूर्ण तेभागा, पुन्नपरा, वायालार, वोरवी आदिवासियों और सबके उपर तेलंगाना किसानों का वीरतापूर्ण सशस्त्रा संघर्ष हैदराबाद निजाम के विरुद्ध था। निजाम ने ब्रिटिश के साथ सहयोग किया था।

स्वतंत्राता संग्राम के दौरान दलित और आदिवासियों के बीच समानता का मामला बार बार उभरता रहा था। दलित नेताओं में फुले, पेरियार और अम्बेडकर सबसे बड़े रूप में उभरे। गदर आंदोलन, हिंदुस्तानी समाजवादी प्रजातंत्रात्मक ऐसोशियेशन और बाद में इंडियन नेशनल आर्मी ने जाति और साम्प्रदायिक अवरोधों को तोड़ कर समानता का रास्ता बनाने में नेतृत्व किया। कांग्रेस यद्यपि कुछ सुधारों के लिए राजी थी परंतु दूर तक आगे नहीं जाना चाहती थी। विप्लव के दलित और आदिवासी नेताओं से वह कटु आलोचना पाती रहती थी। वास्तव में, स्वतंत्राता संग्राम के अग्रिम हिस्से इस निर्णय पर पहुंचे कि आधुनिक देश की तरह भारत को यदि सफल होना था तो दलित एवं आदिवासी एकता की समस्या को नकारा नहीं जा सकता था।

स्वतंत्राता की ओर अंतिम धक्का

द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के बाद, भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन से पैदा हुए संवेग ने सशस्त्रा कार्यवाहियों को बढ़ाया जिसने ब्रिटिश शासन को बुरी तरह कमजोर किया। विश्व युद्ध ने ब्रिटिश को भारतीय नेवी की इकाईयों की स्थापना के लिए मजबूर किया और भारत के विभिन्न भागांे से आफिसरों को सेवा में लिया। 1946 फरवरी में हड़ताल के विरुद्ध भारतीय नौसैनिकों से बुरा और भेदभावपूर्ण बर्ताव किया गया था। हड़ताल को बंबई बंदरगाह में खड़े सभी 20 जहाजों के भारतीय कर्मीदलों का समर्थन मिला था। नौसेना के 20,000 नाविक हड़ताल पर चले गए। ’’भारत की विजय’’, ’’क्रांति अमर रहे’’ और ’’हिंदू और मुस्लिम एक हों’’ उनके नारे थे। शीघ्र ही महाराष्ट्र् के थाने, दिल्ली की बैरिकों, करांची, कलकत्ता एवं विशाखापटनम में खड़े जहाजों में संघर्ष फैल गया। बंबई की फेक्टरियों के 2,00,000 कामगारों ने हड़ताल के समर्थन में औजार नीचे रख दिए। परंतु मुस्लिम लीग और जिन्ना की तरह गांधी और मौलाना आजाद सहित कांग्रेस के अन्य नेताओं ने, हड़ताल का विरोध किया। पटेल ने हड़तालियों को यह वादा करते हुए कि उनकी छटनी नहीं की जायेगी, शांत करने का प्रयास किया। परंतु पटेल का वादा आम गिरफ्तारी और पुलिस की बर्बर कार्यवाहियों को नहीं रोक पाया, जिनमें 1700 लोग की मृत्यु हुई थी।

भारतीय नौसेना की हड़ताल ने जनता में शक्ति और साहस का संचार किया। प्रतिरोध की कार्यवाहियां गतिशील हुईं। ब्रिटिश ने साफ तौर पर अनुभव किया कि वे भारत पर और अधिक पकड़ नहीं रख सकते और बदले में भारत के बटवारे पर अपना ध्यान केंद्रित किया। इन अलगाववादी और खतरनाक षड़यंत्रों में मुस्लिम लीग सक्रिय भूमिका अदा करने की इच्छा रखती थी। स्वनिर्णय के अधिकार के बेतुके अर्थ में उस समय की कानूनी भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी जिसने अपने भूतिगत जीवन के अनेक सालों में ट्र्ेड युनियनों और किसान सभाओं को उर्जा देने की अहम भूमिका अदा की थी, ने मुस्लिम एक अलहदा राष्ट्र् था, के विचार का समर्थन किया। इस तरह मुस्लिम लीग के आग लगाउ प्रचार को सैद्धांतिक छत्राछाया उनने दी थी। इससे गदरवादियों और दूसरे कम्युनिस्ट संगठनों जो ’’दो राष्ट्र् नीति’’ के सिद्धांत के विरोध में जोरदार ढंग से लड़े थे, के बीच दरार पैदा हो गई। ट्र्ेड युनियन और विप्लववादी किसान आंदोलनों में हिंदू और मुस्लिम एकता लगभग उल्लेखनीय रही। तब भी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के नेता एक भारी भूल में मुस्लिम लीग की अलगाववादी नीति का समर्थन करते प्रतीत होते थे।

स्वतंत्राता भारी कीमत पर जीती गई परंतु वह कीमत उपमहाद्वीप की जनता को उद्वेलित करती चली आ रही है। और, वह कीमत है धार्मिक विभाजन एवं असिंहष्णु प्रतिक्रियावादी आधार पर पाकिस्तान का निर्माण ।

जब हम भविष्य की ओर देखते हैं यह याद रखना महत्वपूर्ण है कि धार्मिक कट्टरता और रूढ़िवादिता के विरोध के संघर्ष में यूरोप के पुनर्जागरण ने गंभीर भूमिका अदा की थी। यह बेहद शंकास्पद है कि भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप की जनता धार्मिक अंधविश्वासों, कट्टरता और रूढ़िगत आतंकवाद के धब्बों को मिटाये बगैर, स्वतंत्राता के लाभ को पूरी तरह से उपयोग में ला सके।

यद्यपि 1947 में धर्म आधारित विभाजन की घृणा को प्रेरणावान लोग नहीं जीत सके, यह अति आवश्यक है कि विभाजन का दुख फिर से न दुहराया जा पाये। भारत का इतिहास गवाह है कि कैसे धार्मिक रूढ़िगतता और सामाजिक जड़ता को विचारवान और धर्मनिरपेक्ष ताकतों ने चुनौतियां दीं और हराया था। परंतु आज के भारत के धर्मनिरपेक्ष आंदोलन चकराये हुए हैं, आत्मविस्मृत हैं। आज कश्मीर मुख्यतया इस लड़ाई का युद्ध क्षेत्रा है। कश्मीर को इस्लामी रूढ़िवादियों एवं आतंकवादियों की घुसपैठ से बचाने में ’’धर्मनिरपेक्ष’’ भारतीय निष्क्रिय और उदासीन हैं, लोगों का प्रभाव अथवा शाबाशी पाने की लालसा में। और, न ही वे हिंदू अंध देशभक्ति या अंधकारिता के साथ इस्लामी विभाजन के कैंसर को हरा सकने की कामना करते हैं।

धर्मनिरपेक्ष समाज के संघर्ष का अनेक आर्थिक समस्याओं के कारण, जो हमारी प्रगति को रोकता है, परित्याग नहीं किया जाना चाहिए। दलितों, आदिवासियों और अन्य पिछड़ी जातियों की असली एकता की लड़ाई साथ साथ होना चाहिए। हम सब को वातावरण बनाने की कोशिश करना चाहिए जहां भारत के स्वतंत्राता संग्राम के महानतम नेताओं के संदेश को बड़े पैमाने पर और पहले के मुकाबले ज्यादा फैलाना चाहिए। जिससे, भूख, छतविहीनता, अशिक्षा और बीमारी के कष्ट को समूल नष्ट किया जा सके। देश की स्वतंत्राता तब तक पूर्ण नहीं होगी जब तक हम एक ऐसे देश का निर्माण न कर लें जहां जीवन स्तर खुल्लमखुल्ला उठाया जा सके। जहां आधुनिक विज्ञान के लाभ सहित सही मायने में मानवतावादी और समानतावादी समाज का वातावरण समानरूप से सबको अवसर प्रदान करने वाला हो।

रासबिहारी बोस

रासबिहारी बोस (बांग्ला) (२५ मई, १८८६- २१ जनवरी, १९४५) भारत के एक क्रान्तिकारी नेता थे जिन्होने ब्रिटिश राज के विरुद्ध गदर षडयंत्र एवं आजाद हिन्द फौज के संगठन का कार्य किया। इन्होंने न केवल भारत में कई क्रांतिकारी गतिविधियों का संचालन करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई, बल्कि विदेश में रहकर भी वह भारत को स्वतंत्रता दिलाने के प्रयास में आजीवन लगे रहे। दिल्ली में वायसराय लार्ड चार्ल्स हार्डिंग पर बम फेंकने की योजना बनाने गदर की साजिश रचने और बाद में जापान जाकर इंडियन इंडिपेंडेस लीग और आजाद हिंद फौज की स्थापना करने में रासबिहारी बोस की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही। हालांकि देश को आजाद करने के लिए किए गए उनके ये प्रयास सफल नहीं हो पाए, लेकिन इससे स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में निभाई गई उनकी भूमिका का महत्व बहुत ऊंचा है।
 जीवन
रासबिहारी बोस का जन्म २५ मई १८८६ को बंगाल में बर्धमान के सुबालदह गांव में हुआ। इनकी आरंभिक शिक्षा चंदननगर में हुई, जहां उनके पिता विनोदबिहारी बोस नियुक्त थे। रासबिहारी बोस बचपन से ही देश की स्वतंत्रता के स्वप्न देखा करते थे और क्रांतिकारी गतिविधियों में उनकी गहरी दिलचस्पी रही थी। प्रारंभ में रासबिहारी बोस ने देहरादून के वन अनुसंधान संस्थान में कुछ समय तक हेड क्लर्क के रूप में काम किया। उसी दौरान उनका क्रांतिकारी जतिन मुखर्जी के अगुवाई वाले युगातंर के अमरेन्द्र चटर्जी से परिचय हुआ और वह बंगाल के क्रांतिकारियों के साथ जुड़ गए। बाद में वह अरबिंदो घोष के राजनीतिक शिष्य रहे जतीन्द्रनाथ बनर्जी उर्फ निरालम्ब स्वामी के सम्पर्क में आने पर संयुक्त प्रांत, (वर्तमान उत्तर प्रदेश), और पंजाब के प्रमुख आर्य समाजी क्रांतिकारियों के निकट आए।
दिल्ली में जार्ज पंचम के १२ दिसंबर १९११ को होने वाले दिल्ली दरबार के लिए निकाली गई शोभायात्रा पर वायसराय लार्ड हार्डिंग पर बम फेंकने की योजना बनाने में रासबिहारी की प्रमुख भूमिका रही थी।अमरेन्द्र चटर्जी के एक शिष्य बसंत कुमार विश्वास ने उन पर बम फेंका लेकिन निशाना चूक गया। इसके बाद ब्रिटिश पुलिस रासबिहारी बोस के पीछे लग गई और वह बचने के लिए रात में रेलगाडी से देहरादून भाग गए और आफिस में इस तरह काम करने लगे मानो कुछ हुआ ही नहीं हो। अगले दिन उन्होंने देहरादून के नागरिकों की एक सभा भी बुलाई, जिसमें उन्होंने वायसराय पर हुए हमले की निन्दा की। इस प्रकार उन पर इस षडयंत्र और कांड का प्रमुख संदिग्ध होने का संदेह उन पर किंचितमात्र भी नहीं हुआ। १९१३ में बंगाल में बाढ़ राहत कार्य के दौरान रासबिहारी बोस जतिन मुखर्जी के सम्पर्क में आए, जिन्होंने उनमें नया जोश भरने का काम किया। रासबिहारी बोस इसके बाद दोगुने उत्साह के साथ फिर से क्रांतिकारी गतिविधियों के संचालन में लग गए। भारत को स्वतंत्र कराने के लिए उन्होंने प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान गदर की योजना बनाई। फरवरी १९१५ में अनेक भरोसेमंद क्रांतिकारियों की सेना में घुसपैठ कराने की कोशिश की गई।

जापान में

जुगांतर के कई नेताओं ने सोचा कि यूरोप में युद्ध होने के कारण चूंकि अभी अधिकतर सैनिक देश से बाहर गए हुए हैं, इसलिए बाकी को आसानी से हराया जा सकता है लेकिन यह प्रयास भी असफल रहा और कई क्रांतिकारियों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। ब्रिटिश खुफिया पुलिस ने रासबिहारी बोस को भी पकड़ने की कोशिश की लेकिन वह उनके हत्थे नहीं चढ़े और भागकर विदेश से हथियारों की आपूर्ति के लिए जून १९१५ में राजा पी. एन. टैगोर के नाम से जापान के शंघाई में पहुंचे और वहां देश की आजादी के लिए काम करने लगे। वहां उन्होंने कई वर्ष निर्वासन में बिताए। जापान में भी रासबिहारी बोस चुप नहीं बैठे और वहां के अपने जापानी क्रांतिकारी मित्रों के साथ मिलकर देश की स्वतंत्रता के लिए प्रयास करते रहे। उन्होंने जापान में अंग्रेजी के अध्यापन के साथ लेखक व पत्रकार के रूप में काम शुरू किया। उन्होंने वहां में न्यू एशिया नामक समाचार पत्र शुरू किया। जापानी भाषा सीखी और इसमें १६ पुस्तकें लिखीं। ब्रिटिश सरकार अब भी उनके पीछे लगी हुई थी और वह जापान सरकार से उनके प्रत्यर्पण की मांग कर रही थी, इसलिए वह लगभग एक साल तक अपनी पहचान और आवास बदलते रहे। १९१६ में जापान में ही रासबिहारी बोस ने प्रसिद्ध पैन एशियाई समर्थक सोमा आइजो और सोमा कोत्सुको की पुत्री से विवाह कर लिया और १९२३ में वहां के नागरिक बन गए। जापान में वह पत्रकार और लेखक के रूप में रहने लगे। जापानी अधिकारियों को भारतीय राष्ट्रवादियों के पक्ष में खड़ा करने और देश की आजादी के आंदोलन को उनका सक्रिय समर्थन दिलाने में भी रासबिहारी बोस की भूमिका अहम रही। उन्होंने २८ मार्च १९४२ को टोक्यो में एक सम्मेलन बुलाया जिसमें इंडियन इंडीपेंडेंस लीग की स्थापना का निर्णय किया गया। इस सम्मेलन में उन्होंने भारत की आजादी के लिए एक सेना बनाने का प्रस्ताव भी पेश किया।
 आई एन ए


२२ जून १९४२ को रासबिहारी बोस ने बैंकाक में लीग का दूसरा सम्मेलन बुलाया, जिसमें सुभाष चंद्र बोस को लीग में शामिल होने और उसका अध्यक्ष बनने के लिए आमंत्रित करने का प्रस्ताव पारित किया गया। जापान ने मलय और बर्मा के मोर्चे पर कई भारतीय युद्धबंदियों को पकड़ा था। इन युद्धबंदियों को इंडियन इंडीपेंडेंस लीग में शामिल होने और इंडियन नेशनल आर्मी (आईएनए) का सैनिक बनने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया गया। आईएनए , १९१५का गठन रासबिहारी बोस की इंडियन नेशनल लीग की सैन्य शाखा के रूप में सितंबर १९४२ को किया गया। बोस ने एक झंडे का भी चयन किया जिसे आजाद नाम दिया गया। इस झंडे को उन्होंने सुभाष चंद्र बोस के हवाले किया। रासबिहारी बोस शक्ति और यश के शिखर को छूने ही वाले थे कि जापानी सैन्य कमान ने उन्हें और जनरल मोहन सिंह को आईएनए के नेतृत्व से हटा दिया लेकिन आईएनए का संगठनात्मक ढांचा बना रहा। बाद में इसी ढांचे पर सुभाष चंद्र बोस ने आजाद हिन्द फौज के नाम से आईएनएस का पुनर्गठन किया।
भारत को ब्रिटिश शासन की गुलामी से मुक्ति दिलाने की जीतोड़ मेहनत करते हुए किन्तु इसकी आस लिए ही २१ जनवरी १९४५ को इनका निधन हो गया। उनके निधन से कुछ समय पहले जापानी सरकार ने उन्हें आर्डर आफ द राइजिंग सन के सम्मान से अलंकृत किया था।

टंट्या भील

स्वाधीनता के स्वर्णिम अतीत में जाँबाजी का अमिट अध्याय बन चुके आदि विद्रोही टंट्या भील अंग्रेजी दमन को ध्वस्त करने वाली जिद तथा संघर्ष की मिसाल है। टंट्या भील के शौर्य की छबियां वर्ष 1857 के बाद उभरीं। जननायक टंट्या ने ब्रिटिश हुकूमत द्वारा ग्रामीण जनता के शोषण और उनके मौलिक अधिकारों के साथ हो रहे अन्याय-अत्याचार की खिलाफत की। दिलचस्प पहलू यह है कि स्वयं प्रताड़ित अंग्रेजों की सत्ता ने जननायक टंट्या को “इण्डियन रॉबिनहुड’’ का खिताब दिया। जननायक टंट्या भील को वर्ष 1889 में फाँसी दे दी गई।
आदिवासियों का रॉबिनहुड था टंट्या भील
मध्यप्रदेश का जननायक टंट्या भील आजादी के आंदोलन के उन महान नायकों में शामिल है जिन्होंने आखिरी साँस तक फिरंगी सत्ता की ईंट से ईंट बजाने की मुहिम जारी रखी थी। टंट्या को आदिवासियों का रॉबिनहुड भी कहा जाता है क्योंकि वह अंग्रेजों की छत्रछाया में फलने फूलने वाले जमाखोरों से लूटे गए माल को भूखे-नंगे और शोषित आदिवासियों में बाँट देता था।

गुरिल्ला युद्ध के इस महारथी ने 19वीं सदी के उत्तरार्ध में लगातार 15 साल तक अंग्रेजों के दाँत खट्टे करने के लिए अभियान चलाया। अंग्रेजों की नजर में वह डाकू और बागी था क्योंकि उसने उनके स्थापित निजाम को तगड़ी चुनौती दी थी।

कुछ इतिहासकारों का हालाँकि मानना है कि टंट्या का प्रथम स्वाधीनता संग्राम से सीधे तौर पर कोई लेना-देना नहीं था लेकिन उसने गुलामी के दौर में हजारों आदिवासियों के मन में विदेशी हुकूमत के खिलाफ संघर्ष की अखंड ज्योति जलाई थी। यह ज्योति उसे भारतीय आजादी के इतिहास में कभी मरने नहीं देगी।

टंट्या निमाड़ अंचल के घने जंगलों में पला-बढ़ा था और अंचल के आदिवासियों के बीच शोहरत के मामले में दंतकथाओं के नायकों को भी मात देता है। हालाँकि उसकी कद-काठी किसी हीमैन की तरह नहीं थी।

दुबले-पतले मगर कसे हुए और फुर्तीले बदन का मालिक टंट्या सीधी-सादी तबीयत वाला था।
किशोरावस्था में ही उसकी नेतृत्व क्षमता सामने आने लगी थी और जब वह युवा हुआ तो आदिवासियों के अद्वितीय नायक के रूप में उभरा। उसने अंग्रेजों से लोहा लेने के लिए आदिवासियों को संगठित किया। धीरे-धीरे टंट्या अंग्रेजों की आँख का काँटा बन गया।

इतिहासविद् और रीवा के अवधेशप्रताप सिंह विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति डॉ. एसएन यादव कहते हैं कि वह इतना चालाक था कि अंग्रेजों को उसे पकड़ने में करीब सात साल लग गए। उसे वर्ष 1888-89 में राजद्रोह के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया।

डॉ. यादव ने बताया कि मध्यप्रदेश के बड़वाह से लेकर बैतूल तक टंट्या का कार्यक्षेत्र था। शोषित आदिवासियों के मन में सदियों से पनप रहे अंसतोष की अभिव्यक्ति टंट्या भील के रूप में हुई। उन्होंने कहा कि वह इस कदर लोकप्रिय था कि जब उसे गिरफ्तार करके अदालत में पेश करने के लिए जबलपुर ले जाया गया तो उसकी एक झलक पाने के लिए जगह-जगह जनसैलाब उमड़ पड़ा।

कहा जाता है कि वकीलों ने राजद्रोह के मामले में उसकी पैरवी के लिए फीस के रूप में एक पैसा भी नहीं लिया था।

आदिवासियों के लिए देवता है आजादी के सेनानी टंट्या भील


देश में आजादी की पहली लड़ाई यानी 1857 के विद्रोह में जिन अनेक देशभक्तों ने कुर्बानियां दी थी, उन्हीं में से एक नाम है आदिवासी टंट्या भील। आजादी के इतिहास में उनका जिक्र भले ही ज्यादा न हो मगर वह मध्य प्रदेश में मालवा और निमाड़ अंचल के आदिवासियों के लिए आज भी किसी देवता से कम नहीं हैं।
यही वजह है कि इंदौर के करीब पातालपानी में टंट्या भील की प्रतिमा स्थापित कर मंदिर बनाया गया है और आदिवासी उनकी पूजा करते हैं।
ब्रिटिश काल में देश के अन्य हिस्सों की ही तरह मध्य प्रदेश में भी दमन चक्र जारी था। उस दौर में मालवा-निमाड़ इलाके में जन्मे आदिवासी टंट्या भील ने अंग्रेजों के खिलाफ बिगुल फूंक दिया। धीरे-धीरे टंट्या भील का जलगांव, सतपुड़ा की पहाड़ियों से लेकर मालवा और बैतूल तक दबदबा कायम हो गया। वह आदिवासियों के सुख-दुख के साथी बन गए और उनके सम्मान की रक्षा के लिए संघर्ष करने में पीछे नहीं रहे।
वक्त गुजरने के साथ टंट्या भील आदिवासियों के लिए ‘इंडियन रॉबिनहुड’ बन गए और उन्होंने अंग्रेजों की नाक में दम कर दिया। वह अंग्रेजों का धन-सम्पत्ति लूटकर गरीब आदिवासियों में बांट दिया करते थे। परेशान होकर अंग्रेज हुकूमत ने उन्हें डकैत करार देकर उन पर इनाम भी घोषित कर दिया। बाद में उन्हें गिरफ्तार कर लिया और जबलपुर जेल में फांसी दे दी गई।
इंदौर से लगभग 45 किलोमीटर दूर पातालपानी-कालाकुंड रेलवे स्टेशन के लाइनमैन राम अवतार बताते हैं कि आदिवासियों के बीच मान्यता है कि टंट्या के पास कई रहस्यमय शक्तियां थीं जिनके चलते उनका अंग्रेजों के साथ लुका-छुपी का खेल चलता था।
इलाके के आदिवासियों के बीच टंट्या भील आजादी के सेनानी नहीं, बल्कि देवता के रूप में पूजे जाते हैं। पातालपानी में उनका मंदिर बना है जहां आदिवासी समुदाय के लोग पहुंचकर उनकी पूजा कर उनसे मनौती मांगते हैं।
मान्यता है कि वहां मांगी गई उनकी मुराद पूरी भी होती है। इतना ही नहीं, इस रेल मार्ग से गुजरने वाली हर ट्रेन भी यहां टंट्या के सम्मान में रुकती है और ट्रेन का चालक टंट्या की प्रतिमा के आगे नारियल और अगरबत्ती अर्पित कर ही ट्रेन को आगे बढ़ाता है।
मध्य प्रदेश सरकार इस वर्ष गणतंत्र दिवस समारोह के अवसर पर दिल्ली में आयोजित परेड में टंट्या भील पर केन्द्रित झांकी प्रस्तुत करने वाली है। राज्य संस्कृति विभाग के संचालक श्रीराम तिवारी ने आईएएनएस को बताया कि गणतंत्र दिवस की इस झांकी में टंट्या भील के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के योगदान को पेश किया जाएगा।
  
एक अनपढ़ आदिवासी ने नींद उड़ा दी थी अंग्रेज सरकार की
हमारे देश में जब भी स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन को लेकर सरकारी स्तर पर कोई आयोजन होता है तो प्रधान मंत्री से लेकर मंत्री और मंच पर बैठे राजनेता गाँधी, नेहरु जैसे कुछ नेताओँ के नामों की जय-जयकार कर देश के स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन का इतिहास बता देते हैं। लेकिन देश में हजारों लाखों ऐसे लोग हुए हैं, जिन्होंने हमारी आजादी की असली लड़ाई लड़ी, उनका नाम न तो इतिहास की किताबों में है न सरकारी दस्तावेजों में। वे अगर जिंदा हैं तो देश के उन आम लोगों के बीच जिनके लिए उन्होंने अपने प्राणों का बलिदान कर दिया। मध्य प्रदेश का टंट्या भील एक ऐसा ही आदिवासी युवक था जिसने अकेले ही पूरे अंग्रेजी साम्राज्य की नींद उड़ा दी थी। बेहद गरीब घर में पैदा हुए टंट्या भील ने उस समय देश की की आजादी का बिगुल फूँक दिया था, जब गाँधीजी नामके किसी शख्स का नाम तक कोई नहीं जानता था।
यह निर्विवाद सत्य है कि हर आजादी के दीवाने को तात्कालिक सत्ता ने बागी ही निरूपित किया। चाहे औरंगजेब की मुगल सत्ता हो या फिरंगियों की गोरी सत्ता। क्रांतिकारी टंट्या भील ने भी राजशाही और अंग्रेज सत्ता से बारह वर्ष तक सशस्त्र संघर्ष किया तथा जनता के हृदय में जननायक की भाँति स्थान बनाया। स्वाधीनता संग्राम में राजनैतिक दलों और शिक्षित वर्ग ने अंग्रेजी साम्राज्य को समाप्त के लिए सशक्त आंदोलन किए। लेकिन इसके पहले टंट्या भील जैसे आदिवासी क्रांतिकारियों और जनजातियों  ने अंग्रेजी हुकुमत के खिलाफ आम लोगों की आवाज बुलंद कर देश को गुलामी से मुक्त कराने का शंखनाद किया था। टंट्या भील के रूप में आदिवासियों और आमजनों की आवाज मुखरित हुई थी।
एक सौ बीस वर्ष पूर्व देश के इतिहास क्षितिज पर 12 वर्षो तक सतत् जगमगाते रहे क्रांतिकारी टंट्या भील जनजाति के गौरव है। वह भीलtantia_bhil_dacoit.jpg समुदाय के अदम्य साहस, चमत्कारी स्फूर्ति और संगठन शक्ति के प्रतीक हैं। वह अदम्य साहस के स्वस्फूर्त स्वाभाविक उदाहरण बन गए। इसीलिए अंग्रेज सरकार उन्हें 'इंडियन राॉबिनहुड' कहती थी। द न्यूयार्क टाइम्स के 10 नवम्बर 1889 के अंक में ट्टंया भील की गिरफ्तारी की खबर प्रमुखता से प्रकाशित हुई थी। इसमें ट्टंया भील को भारत का रॉबिनहुड  बताया गया। टंट्या भील अंग्रेजों का सरकारी खजाना और अंग्रेजों के चाटुकारों का धन लूटकर जरूरत मंदों और गरीबों में बाँट देते थे। वह गरीबों के मसीहा थे। वह अचानक ऐसे समय लोगों की सहायता के लिए पहुँच जाते थे, जब किसी को आर्थिक सहायता की जरूरत होती थी। वह गरीब-अमीर का भेद हटाना चाहते थे। वह छोटे-बड़े सबके मामा थे। उनके लिए मामा संबोधन इतना लोकप्रिय हो गया कि प्रत्येक भील आज भी अपने आपको मामा कहलाने में गौरव का अनुभव करता है।
टंट्या भील का जन्म तत्कालीन सीपी प्रांत के पूर्व निमाड़ (खण्डवा) जिले की पंधाना तहसील के बडदा  गांव में  सन 1842 में हुआ था। वह फिरंगियों को सबक सिखाना चाहते थे। भीलों के समाजवादी सपने को साकार करना चाहते थे। उन्हें देश की गुलामी का भी  भान था! वह बार बार जेल के सींखचों को तोड़कर भाग जाते थे। छापामार युध्द में वह निपुण थे। उनका निशाना अचूक था। भीलों की पारंपरिक धनुर्विद्या में निपुण थे। 'दावा' यानी फालिया उनका मुख्य हथियार था। उन्होंने बंदूक चलाना भी सीख लिया था। युवावस्था से लेकर अंत समय तक टंट्या का सारा जीवन जंगल, घाटी, बीहडों और पर्वतों में अंग्रेजों और होलकर राज्य की सेना से लोहा लेते बीता। टंट्या ने अंग्रेज साम्राज्य और होल्कर राज्य की शक्तिशाली पुलिस को बरसों छकाया और उनकी पकड़ में नहीं आए। टंट्या की सहायता करने के अपराध मे हजारों व्यक्तियों को गिरफ्तार किया गया तथा सैकडों को जेल भेजा गया।  लेकिन 11 अगस्त 1889 को रक्षाबंधन के अवसर पर मुँहबोली बहन के घर जीजा गणपत द्वारा किए गए विश्वासघात के कारण उन्हें धोखे से गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। टंट्या को ब्रिटिश रेसीडेन्सी क्षेत्र में स्थित सेन्ट्रल इन्डिया एजेन्सी जेल (सी.आई.ए.) इन्दौर में रखने के बाद पुलिस के कड़े सशस्त्र पहरे में जबलपुर ले जाया गया।
tantya_bhil.jpgटंट्या को बड़ी-बड़ी भारी बेड़ियां डालकर और जंजीरों से जकड़कर जबलपुर की जेल में बंद रखा गया जहां अंग्रेजी हुक्मरानों ने उन्हें भीषण नारकीय यातनांए दीं और उन पर भारी अत्याचार किए। टंट्या को 19 अक्टूबर 1889 को सेशन न्यायालय जबलपुर ने फांसी की सजा सुनाई। जनविद्रोह के डर से टंट्या को कब और किस तारीख को फांसी दी गई यह आज भी अज्ञात है। आम मान्यता है कि फाँसी के बाद टंट्या के शव को इंदौर के निकट खण्डवा रेल मार्ग पर स्थित पातालपानी (कालापानी) रेल्वे स्टेशन के पास ले जाकर फेंक दिया गया था। वहाँ पर बनी हुई एक समाधि स्थल पर लकड़ी के पुतलों को टंट्या मामा की समाधि माना जाता है। आज भी सभी रेल चालक पातालपानी पर टंट्या मामा को सलामी देने कुछ क्षण के लिए रेल को रोकते हैं।
टंट्या मामा द्वारा किए गए कार्यों को निमाड़, मालवा, धार-झाबुआ, बैतूल, होशंगाबाद, महाराष्ट्र, गुजरात और राजस्थान में लोगों ने अपनी लोक चेतना में उसी तरह शामिल कर लिया। जिस तरह लोक देवता पूजित होते हैं। टंट्या मामा की सबसे अधिक गाथाएँ निमाड़ अंचल में रची गईं। मालवी, मराठी, गुजराती, राजस्थानी आदि में भी टंट्या भील का चरित्र गाया जाता है। मध्यप्रदेश सरकार ने जनजाति प्रतिभाओं को प्रोत्साहित करने के उद्देश्य से एक लाख रूपए का जननायक ट्टंया भील सम्मान स्थापित किया है। यह सम्मान शिक्षा तथा खेल गतिविधियों में उपलब्धि हासिल करने वाले प्रदेश के एक आदिवासी युवा को प्रतिवर्ष प्रदान किया जाएगा।

क्रांतिकारी माँ दुर्गा देवी (दुर्गा भाभी)


श्रीमती दुर्गा भाभी का 2007-2008 जन्म शताब्दी वर्ष के रूप में मनाया गया है। जिन्होंने एक सक्रिय क्रान्तिकारी का जीवन बिताया। इनका जन्म 7 अक्टूबर 1907 को इलाहाबाद में हुआ था। वे एक क्रांतिकारी देशभक्त शहीद श्री भगवती चरण वोहरा की पत्नी थीं, जिन्होंने अपने जीवन का बलिदान देश की स्वतंत्र्ता के लिए लडते हुए किया तथा देश के लिए अपने पारिवारिक हितों का बलिदान कर दिया। दुर्गा भाभी श्री भगतसिंह की सहयोगी रहीं। पराधीन भारत को स्वाधीन बनाने में उनके तथा उनके परिवार के अप्रतिम बलिदान की तुलना नहीं की जा सकती। उनकी क्रांतिकारी गतिविधियों ने स्वतंत्र्ता प्राप्त करने में अभूतपूर्व योगदान दिया था। स्वतंत्र्ता आन्दोलन में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाने वाली दुर्गा भाभी के हृदय में राजनीति से हटने में जरा भी देर नहीं लगी। उन्होंने सोचा भी नहीं कि स्वतंत्र्ता पाने के बाद बहुत लाभ उठा सकती हैं तथा अपने परिवार के लिए सुख-समृद्धि ला सकती हैं। परन्तु 1947 के पश्चात् दुर्गा भाभी का या उनके सुपुत्र् श्री शचीन्द्रनाथ बोहरा का नाम किसी ने, कहीं भी, राजनीतिक गतिविधियों में या लाभ के पद पर देखा हो या सरकार ने उनको कोई सुविधा दी ऐसा ज्ञात नहीं होता।
श्रीमती दुर्गा भाभी का क्रांतिकारी जीवन उनका विवाह श्री भगवतीचरण वोहरा के साथ होने के पश्चात् ही प्रारम्भ हुआ। क्रांतिकारियों में तथा स्वतंत्र्ता संग्राम सैनानियों म महिला होने के बावजूद सबसे आगे रहने वाली श्रीमती दुर्गा देवी वोहरा को देशभक्त दुर्गा भाभी के नाम से जानते हैं। श्रीमती दुर्गा देवी ने 7 अक्टूबर 1907 को इलाहाबाद के सेवानिवृत्त न्यायाधिकारी माननीय पण्डित बांके बिहारी नागर के घर में जन्म लेकर उनके परिवार को *तार्थ कर दिया। पिता ने उनका नाम दुर्गा रखा जो वास्तव में अंग्रेजों के लिए माँ दुर्गा की अवतार निकलीं तथा सम्पूर्ण भारत के लिए श्रद्धा एवं सम्मान की अधिकारिणी बन गईं। इनकी माता का स्वर्गवास इनके बचपन में ही हो गया तथा पिताश्री ने इनके लालन पालन का उत्तरदायित्व इनकी चाची के ऊपर डालकर संन्यास ले लिया। इनकी शिक्षा पाँचवीं कक्षा तक हुई तथा 1918 में शीघ्र ही इनका विवाह श्री शिवचरण वोहरा के सुपुत्र् श्री भगवती चरण वोहरा के साथ हो गया और वे श्रीमती दुर्गादेवी वोहरा हो गईं। श्री भगवती चरण वोहरा भगतसिंह के सहयोगी थे जिन्होंने भारत को स्वतंत्र्ता दिलाने का स्वप्न सँजोकर आजादी की लडाई लडने की प्रतिज्ञा करके पढाई लिखाई छोड दी। ससुराल में अंग्रेज विरोधी वातावरण था, उसमें श्रीमती दुर्गा पूरी की पूरी रँग गई। पूरा घर खद्दर का प्रयोग करता था तथा वे अपने मित्रें को भी खद्दर के लिए प्रेरित करते थे। गाँधी जी द्वारा प्रेरित असहयोग आन्दोलन सफलता की ओर था तभी चौरी-चौरा काण्ड हो गया और असहयोग आन्दोलन वापस ले लिया गया जो देशहित में नहीं था इसलिए क्रान्तिकारियों को ठीक नहीं लगा और इन नौजवान क्रान्तिकारियों ने अपना अलग से संगठन बनाने का प्रण किया जिसमें दुर्गा भाभी का अभूतपूर्व योगदान था। इसके साथ-साथ दुर्गा भाभी ने प्रभाकर की परीक्षा भी पास कर ली। 1925 में दुर्गा भाभी ने पुत्र् को जन्म दिया तथा माँ ने उसका नाम शचीन्द्रनाथ वोहरा रखा जो जाने माने क्रान्तिकारी श्री शचीन्द्रनाथ सान्याल के नाम पर था।
असहयोग आन्दोलन की असफलता के कारण क्रान्तिकारियों ने मिलकर 1928 में �हिन्दुस्तान रिपब्लिक एसोसियेशन� नाम से संगठन प्रारम्भ किया और क्रान्तिकारी गतिविधियों की योजना बनाने का उत्तरदायित्व इस संगठन को दिया गया। पूजनीय सर्वश्री भगवतीचरण बोहरा, चन्द्रशेखर आजाद, रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल, भगतसिंह, बटुकेश्वर दत्त, राजगुरु, राजेन्द्रसिंह लाहिणी, अशफाक उल्ला खान, दुर्गा भाभी आदि नामी क्रान्तिकारी इसके सक्रिय सदस्य थे। क्रान्तिकारी गतिविधियों के बढने पर दुर्गा भाभी के ऊपर बच्चे के लालन पालन के बोझ के अतिरिक्त क्रान्तिकारी गतिविधियों का शान्तिपूर्ण संचालन भी था।
एक विशेष बात यहाँ कहना चाहूँगा कि क्रान्तिकारियों के द्वारा किसी भी समस्या का हल नहीं होने पर दुर्गा भाभी का निर्णय सर्वोपरि समझा जाता था। उनके विचार किसी क्रान्तिकारी गतिविधि को सफल बनाने में सक्षम थे। महिला होने के नाते अंग्रेजों को इन पर बिल्कुल संदेह नहीं था। इसलिए सूचना देने, पेम्फलेट बाँटने, गोला-बारूद भेजने आदि कार्य तथा समस्त क्रान्तिकारियों के मध्य सम्फ का काम आसानी से किया करती थीं। साइमन कमीशन के विरोध के चलते प्रदर्शन के समय पंजाब-केशरी लाला लाजपत राय पर लाठी चार्ज करके उनको घायल कर दिया जिससे उनका स्वर्गवास हो गया। युवा क्रान्तिकारियों ने इस घटना को भारत के अपमान के रूप में लिया। परिणामस्वरूप इस हत्या के उत्तरदायी पुलिस अधिकारी मिस्टर साण्डर्स का वध राजगुरु, भगतसिंह, चन्द्रशेखर आदि ने लाहौर में कर दिया। इन लोगों को लाहौर से निकालना आवश्यक था। दुर्गा भाभी ने योजना बनाई, श्री भगतसिंह अंग्रेज अधिकारी बने, राजगुरु नौकर और दुर्गा भाभी उनकी पत्नी तथा बडे नाटकीय ढंग से अपने बच्चे को लेकर लाहौर से बाहर निकल गईं।
दुर्गा भाभी के नेतृत्व में राष्ट्रीय महापुरुष श्री लाला लाजपत राय की मौत का प्रतिशोध लेने के लिए एक बैठक बुलाई गई जिसकी अध्यक्षता दुर्गा भाभी ने ही की थी। यह बडे गर्व की बात है तथा लाला लाजपत राय की हत्या के उत्तरदायी पुलिस अधिकारी मिस्टर स्कॉट का वध करने का पुनीत कार्य करने की उनकी इच्छा स्वयं थी, परन्तु अनुशासन में बँधी वे यह कार्य न कर सकीं।
दुर्गा भाभी के पति श्री भगवतीचरण वोहरा का बम परीक्षण में 1930 में देहान्त हो गया। इससे पूर्व की घटना में श्री भगतसिंह आदि का नाम �साण्डर्स काण्ड� में जोडकर उनको अंग्रेजों ने फाँसी की सजा सुना दी। पूरा का पूरा संगठन हिल गया परन्तु दुर्गा भाभी ने इनकी शहादत को बेकार नहीं जाने दिया और देश के लिए वे और भी शक्तिशाली होकर उभरीं जबकि उनके एकमात्र् पुत्र् के प्रति भी उनका उत्तरदायित्व था जो अभी बहुत छोटा था। पुलिस की नजरों में किरकिरी बनी दुर्गा भाभी के नाम से वारंट जारी कर दिया गया। इसी दौरान मिस्टर मेल्कम हेली का वध करने की योजना दुर्गा भाभी के नेतृत्व में बनाई गई। मेल्कम हेली को तो नहीं मार पाईं, परन्तु दूसरे हवलदार टेलर को घायल कर दिया। दुर्गा भाभी के साथ करीब 15 लोगों के नाम वारण्ट जारी कर दिया गया जिसमें शायद 10/12 पकडे गये तथा अपने दो साथियों के साथ दुर्गा भाभी अचानक भूमिगत हो गईं और नहीं पकडी जा सकीं। अंग्रेजों ने चाल चली और दुर्गा भाभी को पकडने की राजनीति के अन्तर्गत न्यायालय ने पकडे गये सब साथियों को छोड दिया।
श्रीमती दुर्गा भाभी आदि के वारण्ट निष्क्रिय कर दिये गये। परिणामतः वे पहले से अधिक शक्तिशाली होकर क्रान्तिकारी गतिविधियों में सक्रिय हो गईं। अंग्रेज अपनी चाल में सफल हुए और पहली बार 1931 में दुर्गा भाभी गिरफ्तार हो गईं। परन्तु उनके खिलाफ कोई मामला न मिलने पर छोड दिया गया। उनकी क्रान्तिकारी गतिविधियों पर रोक लगाने के लिए संदेह के आधार पर 1932 में तीन साल तक लाहौर न छोडने के आदेश देकर नजरबन्द कर दिया गया। नजरबन्दी से छूटने पर गाजियाबाद के प्यारेलाल गर्ल्स स्कूल में अध्यापन का कार्य किया। इस समय तक उनका पुत्र् किशोरावस्था में था, परन्तु पूरी तरह से अपनी माँ जैसा परिपक्व हो गया था। 1937 में उन्होंने कांग्रेस की सदस्यता ली तथा प्रान्तीय कांग्रेस कमेटी की अध्यक्षा चुनी गईं। 1939 में मध्यप्रदेश कांग्रेस अधिवेशन में जनपद के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में भाग लिया, परन्तु राजनीति की उठा-पटक से तंग आकर राजनीति छोड दी। भारत स्वतंत्र् होने वाला था, उनके मन में तनिक भी ध्यान नहीं आया कि स्वतंत्र्ता प्राप्त करने के बाद वे बहुत लाभ उठा सकती हैं जिससे उनका परिवार सुख का जीवन व्यतीत कर सकता है। उन्होंने पलटकर भी राजनीति की ओर नहीं देखा, न ही भारत सरकार ने उनके बलिदानों को याद किया। अध्यापन के क्षेत्र् में आगे बढने के लिए मांटेसरी शिक्षा पद्धति की ट्रेनिंग, अडयार मद्रास में प्राप्त की तथा 1940 में प्रथम मांटेसरी स्कूल की स्थापना की तथा शिक्षा के क्षेत्र् में काम करना शुरू कर दिया।
जीवन के अन्तिम समय में उन्होंने अपने निवास को �शहीद स्मारक शोध केन्द्र� बना दिया, जहाँ पर स्वतंत्र्ता सैनानियों के चित्र्, जीवनी का विवरण तथा साहित्य उपलब्ध होता रहे। समाजसेविका, शिक्षाविद् के रूप में अपना जीवनयापन करते हुए 14 अक्टूबर 1999 को उनका स्वर्गवास हो गया। ऐसी माँ दुर्गादेवी की, दुर्गा भाभी की चरण वन्दना, और शत-शत नमन।

● The Raiyyatwari system was introduced during early 19th century in some regions of Madras and Bombay. The Govt. directly obtained a fixed amount from the peasants.
● In the Raiyyatwari system, the revenue rate was fixed 45% to 50% of the total produce separately.
● The Raiyyatwari system had many defects which the Govt. official accepted at the time of a parliamentary inspection for the renewal of the Company’s Charter.
● In the Fifth and Sixth decades of 19 century, the English invested in large amount to control Indian economy.
● The English invested their capital on roads and communications, Railway, Post and Telegraph, Banks and tea gardens.
● In 1830 the Ahoms again rebelled against the English. This time, the English Company adopted a peaceful policy and granted north Assam and some other region to King Purandar Singh.
● Raja Teerath Singh of Nanakkalo rebelled against the English with the help of Garo, Khampati and Sinhopo tribes. Soon it took the shape of a mass-movement. In 1833, the English could crust it with superior military force.
● In 1825, the Assam Rifles rebelled against the English.
● In 1838, the Indian troops stationed at Sholapur rebelled due to non-payment of the full allowances.
● In 1850 the Gobind Garh regiment rebelled.
● On 1 January, 1857, the use of British made Enfield Rifles was started in India. In the cartridges of this Rifle, the fat of cows and pigs were used.
● In March 1857, the soldiers of Bairakpur Cantt refused to use the fat cartridges.
● On 2 May, 1857, the Oudh Regiment of Lucknow too refused to use these cartridges. As a result, the Oudh regiment was disbanded.
● To the soldiers of Meerut who had refused to use the fat cartridges, an English military officer—Carr Michael Smith issued the jail punishment of 5 years.
● On 10 May, 1857, a section of the infantry and cavalry of Merrut rebelled at about 5 P.M.
● The rebels marched to Delhi, captured the city and declared Bahadurshah the emperor of India. Bahadurshah assumed the leadership of revolt in Delhi.
● During this rebellion, Nana Saheb established his suzeranity over Kanpur and declared himself the Peshwa.
● In Bundelkhand Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi assumed the leadership of the revolt.
● In Bihar, the zamindar of Jagdishpur, named Kunwar Singh led the revolt.
● On 28 May, 1857, the soldiers of Nasirabad Cantt in Rajasthan, rebelled.
● Kota and Adva were the main centres of revolt in Rajasthan.
● The Central India, Tantya Tope led the revolt.
● In U.P. the importnat centres of revolution were Jhansi, Kanpur, Bareilly, Meerut, Lucknow, Aligarh, Mathura and Agra.
● The Bareilly rebellion was led by Batakhs Khan.
● The Commissioner of Oudh, Henry Laurrence died of a blast on 4th July, 1857.
● While suppressing the revolt, the English officer Neil buried the dead Brahmans and burnt the dead Muslims.
● In March 1858, under the leadership of Kunwar Singh, the rebels captured Azamgarh.
● While marching towards Benaras from Azamgarh, there was an encounter between Kunwar Singh and the English officer Lord Mark in which Lord Mark had to run away to save his life.
● Kunwar Singh of Jagdishpur was the only leader to have died under the banner of freedom.
● On 14 December, 1857, the English army blasted Kashmiri Gate of Delhi.
● In November 1857 the rebels defeated the English General Windaham near Kanpur.

● According to Sir James Outtram, the revolt of 1857 was the result of a conspiracy of the Muslims who desired to fulfill their self-interest on the strength of the Hindus.
● Ashok Mehta in his book, ‘The Great Revolt’, has attempted to prove that it was a national revolt.
● Pattabhi Sita Ramaiyya takes it to be the first war of Indian independence.
● After crushing the revolt of 1857, they constituted an India Council and abolished the Board of Directors. There were 15 members in the India Council and a Secretary of State for India.
● After the revolt, Lord Canning announced the Declaration of the Queen at a Durbar held at Allahabad. He called it, ‘the Magna Carta of Indian people’.
● In the Declaration of the Queen, the policy of expansion of the political limits came to an end.
● The rebels responsible for the murder of Englishmen were punished. All others were pardoned.
● The objective of Brahmo Samaj, Arya Samaj, Ramkirshna Mission and the Theosophical society etc. was to herald a renaissance in India.
● Brahmo Samaj was founded in Calcutta by Raja Ram Mohan Roy on 20 August, 1828.
● Raja Ram Mohan Roy always advocated the appointment of Indians on high govt. posts. He played a major role in the abolition of Sati system.
● After the death of Raja Ram Mohan Roy on 20 August, 1833, Devendara Nath Tagore assumed the leadership of the Brahmo Samaj.
● Aadi Brahmo Samaj was established by Devendra Nath Thakur.
● Bhartiya Brahmo Samaj was founded by Keshav Chandra Sen.
● The principles of Brahmo Samaj helped immensely in the birth and Spread Indian nationalism.
● Raja Ram Mohan Roy established Vedant College, English School and Hindu College at Calcutta.
● Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the advocate of English Education and he thought English to be the vehicle of progress.
● It was due to the effort of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, that the restriction upon the newspapers were lifted.
● In 1819, at Maharashtra, Prarthna Sabha was founded. It came to an end due to its limited scope.
● In 1867 Atma Ram Pandurang established Prarthna Samaj. M. G. Ranade, R. G. Bhandarkar and Narayan Chandrawarkar were the prominent members of this Samaj.
● Dayanand Saraswati left his house at the age of 21. As a Brahmachari Sadhu, he travelled to different places in India.
● Dayanand Saraswati started the propagation of his religion from Agra.

● After the world war I, the Indian Muslims were excited due to the treatment meted out to Caliph by the British in Turkey. In 1919 they started the Khilafat movement under the leadership of Maulana Shaukat Ali and Muhammad Ali.
● The Congress joined the Muslims in Khilafat movement. On 31 August, 1919, the Khilafat Day was observed.
● Mahatma Gandhi launched the Non-cooperation Mass Movement in 1920-21. But violence broke out at Chauri Chaura then in Gorakhpur district which saddened Gandhiji. In February 1922 he announced the closure of the movement.
● In March 1922 Motilal Nehru and Deshbandhu Chitranjan Das established the Swaraj Party.

● Balban started the system of ‘Sijda’ and ‘Paibos’ during his reign.

and the Jats succeeded in establishing a free Jat state of Bharatpur near Mathura.
● In 1681, Akbar, the son of Aurangzeb revolted against him.
● The 9th Guru of the Sikh order, Guru Tegh Bahadur openly protested against the religious policy of Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb called him to Delhi and asked him to accept Islam. When he refused, he was beheaded.
● Shivaji was the founder of Maratha State. He fought against the state of Deccan, as well as the mughal empire. He was a great administrator.
● Shivaji was succeeded by Sambhaji who was captured and put to death by Aurangzeb.

● After coming to India, the Dutch established their trade centres at Surat, Bharaunch, Cambay, Ahmedabad, Chinsura, Kasim Bazar, Patna, Balasore, Nagapattanam, Kochin, Masulipattanam and Agra.
● The main aim of the Dutch was to trade with the Islands of south-east Asia. India was just a passage for them. This is why the Dutch faced no rivalry with other European companies.
● In 1608, under the leadership of Captain Hawkins, the English fleet reached India.
● In 1717 the Mughal King Farrukh Siyar granted a Firman to the British giving them the trade rights.
● In 1692, the Nawab of Bengal issued an order to the French Company and they established a commercial Factory at Chandranagar.
